Precision Rifle Shooter – Spotter Workshop

This workshop is designed to provide long range precision shooters with opportunities to develop the unique craft of “Spotting”. The ability to spot for another shooter increases the hit success for that shooter at long distances. It is a necessary skills for long range precision shooters, incorporating environmental awareness, teamwork and effective communication. Possessing quality spotting skills often improves individual long range shooting shooting performance.

Shooters will learn the Spotter’s role, encompassing effective Shooter-Spotter communications as they relate to:

  • Identifying wind conditions
  • Confirm targets
  • Assessing wind changes
  • Observing for; shot-swirl, splash and impact
  • Calculating and providing shot corrections

Note: Being Spotter qualified, is mandatory for shooters desiring to participate in long range rifle practice sessions, at the MilCun Training Center.

Equipment Required

  • Any rifle, scope and ammunition combination, manufactured and designed to acquire targets with precision out to, and beyond 600 meters
  • Shooters will be required to conduct all shooting from a prone position
  • Therefore, a ground sheet or comfortable shooting mat is highly recommended
  • Breech flag or chamber clear indicator
  • A quality long range spotting scope is necessary. If attending with another known participant, one spotting scope can be shared between the two
  • Ammunition – 120 rounds
  • Lunch will not be provided. Be prepared to attend with whatever food and hydration you deem necessary
  • Shooters must also be prepared to dress according to the weather conditions. There is no such things as bad weather, only bad clothing
